How to Fix DOOM: The Dark Ages Crashing on PC

DOOM: The Dark Ages is now available for those who have purchased early access, but crashing issues on PC have become a major issue for some players.

Set for full release on May 15, thousands of gamers around the world will have splashed out to earn two days of early access, but playing time has been disrupted by several problems.

If you’re banging your head against the wall trying to find out why DOOM: The Dark Ages is crashing for you, we’ve got some fixes and explanations.

Crashing issues for DOOM: The Dark Ages on PC appear to be caused by graphics driver issues, particularly for anyone using Nvidia GPUs and 576.40 drivers, but there is a fix from Bethesda.

  1. Reboot your system.
  2. Reinstall the graphics driver.
  3. Relaunch the game.

This is far from the only known issue with crashes, however, and several other problems are present. One thing you definitely need to do is ensure your system meets the minimum requirements and you have the latest GPU drivers installed.

Another known issue is affecting those playing on an RTX 50 series GPU with G-Sync or V-Sync enabled may experience crashes. If this issue is affecting you, the solution is to disable the settings in the Nvidia Control Panel.

If you want to reenable G-Sync and V-Sync, or also want to use Multi Frame Generation, you can enable these settings in-game once you are loaded in successfully.

Other issues may still be present and yet to be identified, however, so reach out to Bethesda’s support channels if you have any issues.

What if DOOM: The Dark Ages is Still Crashing?

If you are still experiencing issues with crashing in DOOM: The Dark Ages, check to see if you have an Intel CPU model number that starts with 13 or 14.

Should you fall into that category, Bethesda has warned you may have a corrupted CPU and has advised contacting Intel’s customer support.

Bethesda has also advised filling out the optional crash reporter dialogue if a crash does occur, which will assist the development team in identifying and resolving any other issues.

Although these issues are always frustrating to encounter, it’s good to see the dev team is hard at work fixing any issues that arise, so it should be smooth sailing once the root causes have been resolved.
