Marathon’s grand reveal has finally taken place, and Bungie is inviting users worldwide to participate in a closed alpha. This ambitious extraction shooter aims to disrupt the genre by introducing new, never-before-seen mechanics and a unique aesthetic, which should help nicely when it comes to competing against the top dogs in the space.
In this guide, I’ll walk you through how to access the Marathon closed alpha, which is about to set the scene for Bungie’s next big title.
When is the Marathon Closed Alpha?
Bungie has just revealed that the closed alpha for Marathon will run from April 23 (with no determined end date). It will be covered by a strict NDA that all participants will need to sign, and by all accounts, it’s one heck of a tough alpha to access.
How to Get Into Marathon Alpha
It all begins with accessing Bungie’s Discord server for Marathon and completing a survey.
If you want to access the Marathon alpha, you’ll need to be invited by Bungie – those invited will be posted a few days before April 23. The team will hand out priority codes that give users a better chance of being picked to participate, but it’s not guaranteed access.
This is being kept locked down tight.
To redeem the code on Bungie.net for the Marathon alpha, you’ll need to have no bans or security issues against your account. It’s also a somewhat restricted alpha that will work best in North America. PlayStation players are subject to further limitations – their codes are region-locked to North and South America.
Once you’ve secured access to the Marathon alpha, you’ll get two codes that you can use to bring friends into the fight.

Its genuinely confusing to me why they would release a barebones gameplay trailer, do marketing through online videos and then do a restricted access alpha. This game is INSANELY contentious, and i dont think cherry picking players that interact with you more during a point where many question what your intentions are with this ip is very volatile. Youd imagine if you had this many people confused, angry, whatever about your game that then youd want to get it into as many peoples hands as possible to quell those anxieties. I understand this is probably a stress test but something about this mixed reveal followed by more restrictions on who can play the game at this moment is just so unsettling.
