Donkey Kong Bananza is the first 3D platformer in the series since Donkey Kong 64, which launched in 1999. DK 64 was a massive game with large levels and tons of collectibles to find. Let’s take a look at how long it takes to beat Donkey Kong Bananza in comparison to its predecessor.
Nintendo confirmed that the same team behind Mario Odyssey created Donkey Kong Bananza. Mario Odyssey is widely regarded as one of the best Mario 3D platformers of all time, even rivaling the likes of Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Mario 64, and Super Mario 3D World, all of which are beloved by Nintendo fans.
Mario Odyssey features 17 kingdoms to explore, and the main story takes anywhere from around 12 to 20 hours to complete, which is average for Mario 3D platformers. However, that can extend out to 60 hours or more, as there are 999 Power Moons to collect. Without further ado, here is how Donkey Kong Bananza stacks up against other games in the genre.
How Many Hours to Beat Donkey Kong Bananza?

According to a poll conducted on How Long to Beat, it takes around 20 hours to complete Donkey Kong Bananza’s main story.
In comparison to DK 64, which was considered a massive game, it takes around 25 and a half hours to complete the main story. Just like Super Mario Odyssey, Bananza features 17 different levels, or in this case, 17 planet layers.
For this 3D platformer, the goal is to reach the planet’s core, and each level on the descent down features a new biome to explore.
How Long is a Donkey Kong Bananza Full Completionist Run?
Based on the same polls, it likely takes between 50 and 60 hours to accomplish everything in Donkey Kong Bananza.
And although it’s not 999 like the Power Moon total in Mario Odyssey, there are reportedly 777 bananas to collect. In addition to bananas, there are also fossils and challenge ruins to collect. Fossils can be used to purchase hats, ties, fur colors, and other outfits for Donkey Kong and Pauline.
All of the cosmetic items also come with added benefits, such as reduced damage from enemies or improved swimming capabilities. And as the name suggests, challenge ruins are earned by completing side-challenges on each layer.
