Finding and ringing all of the old bells in Hollow Knight: Silksong will let you open the grand gate and move on to the citadel, and in turn, end the first act, after a boss fight, of course.
While you have likely rung most of the old bells because some of them are on your main path, there is likely one or two you missed just because you took a wrong turn.
You’ve overcome the Blasted Steps; now, here are all of the old bell locations in Hollow Knight: Silksong, so you can open the grand gate.
Old Bell Locations in Hollow Knight: Silksong
There are a total of five old bells you need to ring in Hollow Knight: Silksong. If you have found the citadel gate before ringing all of them, you will be told by a bug that all of these bells need to be rung.
The Marrow
The Marrow’s old bell location has likely already been rung by you because it is on the main path. After you defeat the Bell Beast near the beginning of the game. If you didn’t know to strike the lever in the next room, you will need to return here.
Deep Docks
Again, this is a pretty straightforward bell that you passed after defeating Lace down in the Deep Docks. This bell is located on the right side of the arena you fought her in, just next to the entrance to the Far Fields.
Greymoor
This is the first old bell that you likely missed. To get this one, you need to first go into the section of Greymoor that is infested with various bird enemies on the right side of the map.
Before you can reach it, you need to enter the house here and get past the ambush of enemies on the top floor. When they are defeated, you strike a lever that will put out balloons outside that you can pogo off of to reach the bell spot.
Bellhart
The Bellhart old bell in Hollow Knight: Silksong is another that is hard to miss. It pops up in the room where you fought Widow after defeating her. If you need to return here, you can access it quickly by using the elevator on the right side of the village.
Shellwood
The Shellwood bell is easily missed if you happen to turn the wrong way when making your way to Blasted Steps for the first time. If you need to return, go to the left side of the map and jump up the vertical hallway. When at the top, go to the right.
Opening the Grand Gate With the Old Bells in Hollow Knight: Silksong
With all five bells rung, return to the grand gate at the top right corner of the Blasted Steps. Before you do this, be ready for a challenging boss fight.
Talk to the bugs in front of the gate, and they will tell you to play your needolin music. After doing it, the Last Judge will attack.
