How to Defeat the Bell Beast in Hollow Knight: Silksong—Top Tricks & Tips

The Bell Beast in Hollow Knight: Silksong can be a challenging fight in the beginning portions of the game for newcomers.

The creature is quite large and will take away a pretty big chunk of your health if you’re not careful. Being reckless and going for too many hits when you should be evading them can lead to your downfall.

If you are having problems taking on this creature, here are some tips and tricks to defeating the Bell Beast in Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Being only the second boss of Hollow Knight: Silksong, the Bell Beast only has a few attacks for you to watch out for.

Rush Attack

There are two main attacks that you will see the Bell Beast use when the fight starts. First, it will crawl out of the ground and rush to the other side of the screen. You can jump over it to avoid damage.

Jump Attack

The second attack to watch out for is when it crawls out of the ground and jumps to the other side of the screen, and momentarily pauses before it goes back into the ground. To recognize it is doing this instead of the rush attack, listen for it to yell before it emerges from the ground.

Bell Throw

After you have done some damage to it, the Bell Beast will pop out of the center portion of the arena and throw two bells to either side of it.

Desperation Yell

When hurt enough, the Bell Beast will scream and call in a bunch of bells that fall from the ceiling. Unlike the bell throw attack, which has bells that bounce and roll out of the arena, these bells will disappear after they bounce once.

Bell Beast Boss Weaknesses in Hollow Knight: Silksong

When fighting the Bell Beast in Hollow Knight: Silksong, you want to pay attention to what attacks the boss is doing. Everytime that the boss comes out of the ground, you will see where it will appear. If it is on either side of the arena, listen for a scream. If you hear the yell, it is going to jump over you. As it does this, you can do a short jump (make sure you don’t do a full jump right into the enemy) and attack upwards. When it lands, you can also get a second hit if you’re fast enough.

If you do not hear a scream as it comes out of the ground, the Bell Beast will rush to the other side. The best thing to do here is jump as the boss emerges and do a downward strike. After your attack connects, you will bounce off of them and can get a second strike in.

Focus on recognizing the difference between those two attacks and how you counter them, and you will fly through the first portion of the fight.

After dealing some damage, the Bell Beast will pop up in the center and use its bell throw. While it is possible to get one strike in here, it is recommended that you move away from the enemy and dodge the bells as they come in. You’re much better off maintaining your damage than risking it here.

After enough dodging and counter-attacking, the Bell Beast will pop up in the center of the arena and scream. If you are in the area when this happens, you can get up to four strikes on the creature. That being said, if you are unsure if they are screaming or doing another bell throw, play it safe.

After the desperation yell, a bunch of bells will fall from the ceiling. Just watch out for the dust falling to notice where they are coming from. Once the bell bounces once, it will fall through the floor, so don’t worry about them rolling. While not a constant, we found the right side of the arena to be pretty safe from this attack.

For the rest of the battle, bells will intermittently fall from the ceiling. Be sure to always prioritize avoiding these. Outside of that, you should have a good read on the rest of the Bell Beast’s attacks by now to finish off the second Hollow Knight: Silksong boss.
