In a blog post released today, April 24th, Guerrilla Games seemingly confirmed the existence of a third Horizon title, being delivered alongside the online project that the team has been working on for some time.
This news comes as little surprise, given the nature of Forbidden West’s ending, subsequent expansion in Burning Shores, and the potential to generally blow open and broaden the universe at large.
Horizon Will Become a Trilogy, It Seems
It was a simple statement, but a loaded one nonetheless:
We have full confidence in our new leadership as they steer Guerrilla towards a bright future, expanding the world of Horizon with Aloy’s next adventure and our exciting online project.
The ‘exciting online project’ is a multiplayer game that has been in development for some time now, and recently, a leak uncovered footage and artwork. With a more cartoony appearance – but still unmistakably a Horizon title – Guerrilla’s online project looked something like a survival game set in the heart of Horizon’s universe.
In the blog post on Guerrilla’s platform, the original news being delivered was that Studio Director and Executive Producer, Angie Smets, was moving on to a new role as Head of Development Strategy at PlayStation Studios.
Smets has been with Guerrilla since its earliest days, when the team was developing and releasing Killzone, once a flagship franchise for the PlayStation franchise but now one of the forgotten gems of bygone gaming days.
So, Guerrilla seemingly confirmed that ‘Aloy’s next adventure’ is certainly on the horizon (no pun intended), but how long will it be until it’s officially announced? It has only been a year since Forbidden West was released…
