Grand Theft Auto 6 is the biggest game of 2026, and probably of all time. Yet, instead of talking about the game, there’s a big discourse about the game’s physical disc pre-order option, and what it could mean for you.
You would never have thought 20 years ago (maybe even 10) that we’d be questioning if our physical game copies actually came with a tangible product. We’ve seen companies in recent years classify a physical edition as an empty box with a code inside—this is not physical media.
GTA 6 has been in this conversation, so let me explain all.
Does GTA 6 Physical Edition Have a Disc at Launch?
No, Rockstar Games has revealed that Grand Theft Auto 6’s physical edition at launch will not include the disc in the box, and you’ll be getting a one-time use code instead.
For me, this simply isn’t physical media; it’s a decorative purchase.

I’m the type of person who doesn’t have time to replay games, as there’s always something new to play. As a result, I trade a lot of games in to put toward new purchases.
With GTA 6’s physical edition, I can’t. Once the code is used, you are left with a worthless, empty box. This will be very off-putting to a LOT of gamers, but all hope might not be lost.
Will GTA 6 be Getting a Physical Disc Version?
Reports suggest that a disc-accompanied physical edition of GTA 6 is launching later in 2026.
Insider Gaming reported that GTA 6 will reportedly have a physical disc release in December 2026.
The source isn’t 100% accurate, but it does know stock backends associated with physical media. We don’t know why Rockstar Games would only hold on for one month before giving fans what they’re after.

Just the fact that this might be a possibility might cause a lot of prospective buyers to patiently wait a little while longer to see if Rockstar does officially announce a disc-based physical copy.
