The Day Before has been consigned to history as one of the all-time flops and disappointments. Whereas God Save Birmingham is a very promising title that’s garnered a lot of interest early doors. However, it looks so good that players have once again questioned its legitimacy.
Ocean Drive Studio is responsible for Lost Eidolons: Veil of the Witch and Section 13. But God Save Birmingham could be the most ambitious and is probably the most unique. When it was first announced, the community thought two things: This looks good, and maybe it looks too good—like a certain The Day Before.
The Day Before Accusations Took God Save Birmingham Devs by Surprise

When The Day Before was revealed, it looked incredible. Promising features and gameplay beyond its years. A seamless, dense world reminiscent of The Last of Us. As it got close to launch, people began to suspect it was a scam. It came out on Dec. 7, 2023, to universal negativity and was taken offline within four days.
Ocean Drive Studios’ head of publishing—Jungsoo Lee—recently discussed God Save Birmingham’s The Day Before comparison with IGN.
“I say half and half. Meaning we didn’t think the impact of The Day Before…because lots of people are referencing The Day Before and saying it’s another scam, right? I mean, we read everything! Even internally, Jae and especially myself were thinking some people might say something similar, it might be too good to be true.
Because we acknowledge we never say it’s from the build, but the title is correct, meaning this trailer is there to show people this is what we are aiming to create in terms of gameplay experience that people will have at the final product,” he said.”
He also adds that the team was “a little bit surprised” by the reaction, and addressed a certain YouTube video: “There was another video from a YouTuber with almost 1 million views, ‘Another fake scam’ was the title. So in that sense, we are a little bit surprised, but it wasn’t something we weren’t expecting.”
The interview did ask: “You’re saying everything we see there, eventually you’ll be able to do in the game?” to which Lee replied: “Correct.”
