A detailed post from the Gears of War: E-Day developers has revealed all the gameplay updates they made in the latest installment to enhance the franchise experience.
Gears of War: E-Day is a prequel to the series and a brand new title crafted from the ground up. It features new animations, assets, and gameplay mechanics. While it retains the core elements that fans know and love, it also introduces fresh features that enhance the overall experience. Here’s everything you need to know about the gameplay in Gears of War: E-Day.
Gears of War: E-Day Brings Gameplay Updates Across Cover, Movement, Weapons, and Enemies
Gears of War: E-Day Cover Gameplay Details
Starting with the feature that players will use the most during gameplay: Cover. Doesn’t matter which game mode you are playing Campaign, Horde Siege, or Versus, cover is something you will always need to use when approaching any situation. The latest game adds a new ‘low ground’ cover that allows players to hide behind lower walls and debris. Players can also go prone now when their upper body protection is destroyed in battle.
Gears of War E: Day Movement Gameplay Changes
The developers have revealed that movement is the area that has received the most gameplay changes in Gears of War: E-Day. With sprint, players get more control, and camera changes for better awareness; also, each sprint has a nod to a Roadie Run. Players can trigger a slide from sprint to get a lower approach on the target; you can also shoot while sliding.
The new movement system focuses on jumping and climbing, enabling players to ascend a ledge, wall, or even a vehicle if it’s within arm’s reach after a jump. For the first time in Gears, players can mantle and climb without having to enter cover. This new movement also opens up different areas on the maps, such as Cover Gaps, where players can traverse various gaps while maintaining cover by sliding and ducking.
Weapon Mechanics
The developers have meticulously worked on each weapon of the upcoming title to make it feel great and fit in their new foundation. Players will find that every projectile has simulated ballistics and travel time. Players can shoulder-swap while aiming, and they will also experience more realism, such as scopes now having sway to provide more of a challenge for snipers; some automatic weapons have tuned recoil to reward players who fire in short bursts.
Additionally, there are different tweaks to each weapon, including Gnasher, Breechshot, Prototype Lancer, Hammerburst, Lancer MK1, The Snub, and Smoke Grenades. Also, heavy weapons still slow you down, but most movements can still be performed, and players can also rip off heavy weapons from turret bases.
Enemies Gameplay Details
Bringing back locusts has allowed the developers to rework some of the most iconic enemies of the franchise. They have also reworked the appearance and abilities of core units such as Wretches, Boomers, Seeders, Reavers, and Drones. Plus, there are some new creatures from the Hollow as enemies that the Locusts enslave.
That’s not all; there’s a wealth of more details players can find in the latest Gears of War X post, including other gameplay updates for E-day apart from the four pillars.
