Comments by FURIA Jungler Pedro ‘Tatu’ Seixas sparked debate as the Brazilian questioned the League of Legends Worlds 2026 slot distribution following Furia’s Americas Cup victory, questioning why the LCS has two more slots than CBLOL.
The cross-region competition saw the best CBLOL and LCS, who finished second and third in CBLOL Cup and LCS Lock-in, respectively, compete for a funded bootcamp at MSI 2026.
FURIA won the competition without dropping a single game, finishing with an 8-0 record after defeating Cloud 9 2-0 in the first round, Sentinels 3-0 in the Semis, and Cloud 9 again, this time 3-0 in the Grand Finals.
The Jungler took to the Brazilian broadcast following the victory, saying, “I want to understand why these guys have 3 spots, and I only have one. I just want to understand that.” (translated)
Why is the LoL Worlds 2026 slot distribution controversial?
Overall, the Americas have one more guaranteed slot than last year, when LTA had three spots for Worlds. In that instance, FlyQuest, Vivo Keyd Stars, and 100 Thieves made it to the main event of the tournament, exiting at the Swiss Stage.
The two American regions now have four spots, but the LCS is set to benefit from that extra spot with three Worlds extending to the third-place of LCS 2026 Summer. By contrast, only CBLOL’s Split 2 playoff winners will make it to Worlds.
The reason for the slot discrepancy stems from the historical classification of the LCS as a major league and CBLOL’s status as a minor or ’emerging’ league.
Whether the historical importance of a league is enough to justify the distribution is arguable, especially with this result at Americas Cup, which displayed the progress Brazil has made in recent years, despite still largely being outperformed by NA opposition internationally.
Tatu’s comments sparked discussion on Reddit, with some advocating for a playoff between the third-LCS team and the second CBLOL team in order to ensure the distribution reflects the competitive levels of the regions.
The only other way for Brazil to have two slots at Worlds 2026 would be the most historic MSI run in the history of League of Legends, which, let’s be honest, is not happening.
While this system remains in place for Worlds 2026, history shows that Riot Games is willing to alter distribution for a variety of reasons, such as different formats and changing league structures, so perhaps there is scope for a second Brazilian slot even if it’s vanishingly unlikely in 2026.
