Forza Motorsport Will Launch Without Three Popular Features

Forza Motorsport Launch Features

When Forza Motorsport launches on October 10 for Xbox Series X|S and PC, it’ll do so without three popular features.

According to Turn 10 Studios, the game won’t include split-screen multiplayer, the ability to race against AI in various multiplayer modes, and a spectator mode. Creative director Chris Esaki said that the studio has its reasons for the decisions.

Regarding the lack of split-screen multiplayer, Esaki says it’s because of the studio’s “heavy investment” in new graphic features and the game’s rendering engine.

“[It] unfortunately made split-screen really difficult to implement, and is also not going to be in for launch,” he said.

As far as no spectator mode or AI racers in multiplayer races, Esaki said it went against the studio’s goals for the game.

“Having players come into a featured multiplayer event and taking player slots, and then spectating? It’s not really the racing we had intended,” he said. “Similarly, racing with AI in featured multiplayer with all its potential impacts on your safety rating also didn’t make a whole lot of sense to have and is not going to be available for us at launch.”

There was no mention of if the features will be added down the line via a post-launch update. Insider Gaming has reached out for clarification on if these features could or will be added at a later date.

  1. Hey Mike – did you specifically ask if AI players would be included in private multiplayer lobbies at launch? It sounds like it won’t in featured multiplayer, which is more understandable, but it would be awful if you couldn’t use AI players in private lobbies where your safety/player ratings aren’t affected.

  2. On that second point, and this is just a thought from a rando who’s never been on a professional race track, but would it be possible to make the game work in a way where people can spectate without “taking player slots”? I don’t know, maybe it’s too demanding for the architecture. There’s no way that would work in the real life sport, either.

    1. Oh it absolutely could be done; the fact that they didn’t immediately go to the obvious solution is patently ridiculous and shows a continued clear disregard for their player base as they have done for years now.

  3. I don’t care about split screen or spectating but I want to be able to race with a friend online and be able to fill in the empty field with AI. I don’t always want to race against strangers. In fact, I never do.

  4. The lack of AI in private lobbies will be a game breaker for me. I hate the thought of being forced to play public lobbies to have a full grid

  5. The fact they still don’t have the option for AI in multiplayer is extremely disappointing, that was the main reason I never really got into the older games, looks like I may just give this game a pass too as racing against only 2 or 3 friends in a private lobby gets a bit old after a while

  6. Gotta love how their immediate “solution” to not having someone take up a racing slot as a spectator is to remove spectators, not, oh I don’t know, have spectators NOT TAKE UP A RACING SLOT. My watching a real race online through people’s helmet and car cams don’t require that I have a spot on the field, why should it be that way in a motorsport game? The fact that they missed the most obvious solution to the issue is mind boggling.
