Fortnite Will Release Proximity Chat This Week, It’s Claimed

According to a new claim, Fortnite is planning to release proximity chat for Battle Royale on September 19, 2025.

The first time we heard about Fortnite Battle Royale getting proximity chat was last month, when dataminers found some separate “Creative Proximity Chat files” that could be incorporated into Battle Royale. Now, new details about how this feature will work in Fortnite have been revealed.

Fortnite Proximity Chat Will Allow Players to Join/Leave Squads Mid-Match

The latest about Fortnite Proximity Chat’s shadow drop comes from the reliable HYPEX on X (formerly Twitter), who received their information via SpushFNBR. The tweet states that proximity chat is arriving this week, on September 19. Moreover, it appears that it will have its own settings, where players will engage in Zero Build battles in 80-player lobbies on the BR map.

The leaker added that players will have the option to join/leave squads in the middle of matches, and I’m interested to see how that will be executed. Lastly, players must set voice chat to “Everyone” to queue for Proximity Chat matches in Fortnite. In a follow-up tweet, HYPEX has stated that this mode will “most likely” be temporary and will return if the reception is good enough.

Proximity could be a game-changer for Fortnite as players have yet to experience such a feature in their battle royale mode. I’m very excited to see what kind of chaos it unfolds. For those who haven’t heard about proximity chat, it is a feature that allows players to hear other players in the lobby depending on their closeness to them.

In other news, Fortnite is receiving ‘exact amount‘ V-Bucks purchases next month. Additionally, a collaboration with IShowSpeed was accidentally leaked by Kai Cenat.
