Former Destiny 2 and Marathon Lead Settles $200 Million Lawsuit Against Bungie and Sony

The former Destiny 2 and Marathon lead has confirmed that his lawsuit against Sony and Bungie has been settled and that they are satisfied with the outcome.

Back in 2024, former Marathon and Destiny 2 director Christopher Barrett was removed from his post for alleged inappropriate contact. Barrett claimed that he was wrongfully terminated so that Sony and Bungie could avoid paying around $45 million in compensation that was owed under his employment contract.

Barrett then sued Sony and Bungie, seeking $200 million in damages, alleging it was a “premeditated scheme to terminate” him and “avoid paying him the tens of millions of dollars he was owed, thanks GamesRadar+.

Former Destiny 2 and Marathon Lead Satisfied with Bungie and Sony Lawsuit Outcome

The latest report by GamesRadar+ also highlights a new LinkedIn post by the former Marathon and Destiny 2 director, in which he addresses the outcome of the Bungie and Sony lawsuit. Barrett states that he has “reached an agreement to resolve the lawsuit” and is “very satisfied” with the outcome. The terms of the settlement weren’t disclosed.

The post also includes a joint statement from all parties stating that “the litigation between Sony Interactive Entertainment, Bungie and Christopher Barrett has been settled.” Moreover, it also states that “Mr Barrett was the original Game Director for Marathon, and his name has been added to the game’s credits to reflect that.

Barrett concluded the post by stating that closing this chapter will allow him to focus on what is next in his gaming journey. He signed off the post as ‘Co-Creator – Destiny’ and ‘Original Game Director – Marathon’.
