Square Enix director Naoki Hamaguchi has taken to social media to reveal that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will have two story DLC expansions, both of which will be paid, and have apparently been highly requested by fans and media.
By the time Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is out, Square Enix will have spent 10 years developing three hefty games, encompassing the whole Final Fantasy 7 story. However, Square has dished out extra editions and content here and there, but Revelation will have the most significant and potentially controversial expansions yet.
Square Enix Reveals Paid Final Fantasy 7 Revelation DLC
When all is said and done, people will argue for years over whether Final Fantasy 7 needed to be split into three games. The size and scope of the overall product have been astronomical, but it’s taken a lot of time, effort, and money.
Square Enix is looking to recoup through additional content for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, it seems.

The September 2026 Sony State of Play revealed the Final Fantasy 7 Revelation release date. Shortly after the event wrapped up, FF7 Revelation director Naoki Hamaguchi let the world know:
“Following the announcement of FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION, we received many requests from fans and media for DLC, and decided to make it happen. Rather than announcing it after launch, we wanted to share our plans before the release of the main game. We’ll be telling the stories of Sephiroth and Vincent in greater depth. We hope you’re looking forward to it!”
Say hello to ‘Story DLC 1: Sephiroth’ and ‘Story DLC 2: Vincent & The Turks.’
If you think there’s not a clear message here saying they will be paid, you can check the game’s Steam page, which is already advertising a ‘FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION Story Expansion Pass.’
Not much more is revealed about the content, but some of the comments underneath the original post weren’t too happy, accusing Square of ‘Greed,’ and saying that the DLC ‘should be included in the base game.’
We’ve got a long way to go until launch, so expect future updates from Square about each DLC, what to expect content-wise, and the big question—the price.
