Nearly two years after it first launched on PlayStation 5 (PS5), Final Fantasy 16 is finally available on Xbox. Unfortunately, however, it seems players aren’t that interested in the latest release of the series on the platform.
According to analytics firm Alinea Analytics, Final Fantasy 16 has sold just 22,000 copies on Xbox since it shadow dropped on June 9.
Alinea Analytics is a firm similar to Circana and Newzoo. While it’s unclear how they acquire and calculate their numbers, their website states that they are “committed to delivering the most reliable data” from the gaming industry.

Recently, it was revealed that the game only runs at 720p on Performance Mode on the Xbox Series X. Even in “Graphics Mode”, the game runs at just 1224p on the system, compared to 1440p on the PS5.
“Oftentimes, we don’t see that big of a resolution divergence between the two consoles, and oftentimes it favors the Series X,” Digital Foundry said.
To add credence to Alinea’s claims, fans are noticing that Final Fantasy 16 is nowhere near the top of Xbox’s most played games. Instead, it finds itself in the 400s. A visit to the “Most Played” page on the Xbox store shows it near the bottom of the list after a few clicks.
As of publishing, Square Enix has yet to comment on the sales performance of Final Fantasy 16 on Xbox. The company’s next earnings report isn’t scheduled until later this summer which is where they’ll likely provide and update.
