If you’re any kind of a decent Fallout fan, you’ll understand the aura around a great suit of power armor. These imposing metal suits can turn the tide of battle and look utterly amazing while doing so, and throughout Fallout’s history, dozens of variants have emerged, some of which have lingered and gained status as instantly recognizable and synonymous with the series.
Recently, Fallout 4 received an almighty gift in the form of the Midwestern Power Armor Creation, a fan-made package that reintroduces a legendary power armor set that we’ve not really seen since 2001’s Fallout: Tactics.
Midwestern Power Armor is a Must-Have
Technically, the Midwestern Power Armor Creation isn’t new, but it was updated recently and pushed across social and video platforms by the mod’s creators, Hobgoblin Studios and Local Symmetry. The Creation first surfaced at the end of July, and it has since been downloaded more than 1,100 times in Fallout 4.
As part of the Creations platform, the Midwestern Power Armor pack isn’t free, but it’s worth the investment. To pick up the bundle, you’ll need to part with 500 Creation Credits. That’s around $4.99 in real-world money.
When Bethesda Game Studios first unveiled the Creations platform, it was met with dissent, as it effectively paywalls some of Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, and Starfield’s most ambitious or well-built mods, but at least the modders get a revenue share for their efforts.
Anyway, back to the Midwestern Power Armor pack.
This bundle comes with an all-new custom quest to obtain the suit of power armor, which takes direct inspiration from 2001’s Fallout: Tactics. It also includes a boss fight with a fully voiced character and a new location, the Federal Emergency Bunker.
There’s a bit of a backstory to pick up, a unique minigun weapon to pair with the armor, and a wide variety of customization options, including paint schemes and attachments. There’s even a Tesla variant that builds up shocking charges when you engage in melee fights.
For those with a penchant for 2015’s Fallout 4, the paint schemes available offer you a chance to represent your most beloved faction or brand: Atom Cats, Nuka Cola, Institute, Minutemen, Enclave, and Brotherhood of Steel.
It’s easily one of the best Creations I’ve seen in a hot minute, and I’ll absolutely be investing in it. For now, you can only get this Creation on XBOX and PC, but the team has advised that the PlayStation version will be available soon.
