Fallout 4 Was The Best-Selling Game in the UK in April

In April, a post-apocalyptic title that’s almost ten years old became the best-selling game in the United Kingdom, according to recent data. That’s right, Fallout 4 skyrocketed up the charts and effortlessly sauntered past the likes of EA Sports FC 24, Helldivers 2, Modern Warfare 3, and Grand Theft Auto 5.

It was joined in the top ten by Fallout 76 and Fallout: New Vegas, with Bethesda Game Studios’ MMORPG and Obsidian’s legendary open-world title seeing similar explosions in popularity last month.

Nuclear Acceleration

On April 10, the Fallout television show was released on Amazon Prime Video to an overwhelmingly positive reception. It has been labelled the best live-action adaptation by many critics, surpassing even the Emmy Award-winning series, The Last of Us. It caused a Fallout-themed frenzy when every episode was dropped all at once by Amazon and Bethesda, with player counts soaring across the board.

Fallout 76 experienced an all-time high, Fallout 4 punched up the charts – aided by a next-gen update -, and the retro titles from the first Fallout game through Fallout: New Vegas all experienced monumental booms.

In a breakdown posted by GamesIndustry.biz, it was revealed that Fallout 4 climbed so sharply in sales that it became the best-selling game in the United Kingdom (and likely many other markets) in April. Out of the 2.23 million games sold in April 2024, the vast majority of them were Fallout-themed. It wasn’t shown in the data provided, but Fallout 3 landed in eleventh place, just missing out on Bethesda Game Studios’ flagship franchise having a dominant stranglehold on the British Isles.

In recent weeks, many Fallout-themed topics have surfaced, including a telling tale that has Microsoft eager to push out a new Fallout game as soon as possible. That’ll be tough, as Bethesda Game Studios is tied up with Starfield and Elder Scrolls 6 for the foreseeable – so perhaps Fallout will be handed to another studio to deliver?
