It’s been a month since SEGA announced its ‘New Era, New Energy’ reveal at The Game Awards, with games including fan favorites such as Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi being announced to be making their return.
Both of these games were rumored before the TGA announcement, so SEGA went one further than just announcing a couple of games. The publisher announced five games that were in development, plus even more unnamed games thanks to its “and more” end card in the trailer. It genuinely felt like the publisher was shifting its strategy and to some, was genuinely one of the more exciting announcements from the event.
But what about that “and more” end card? Well, Insider Gaming understands that around 10 SEGA classics were greenlit for production between 2020 and 2021. The greenlit games include the already announced five that we got at the The Game Awards; Jet Set Radio, Shinobi, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, and Crazy Taxi. So far, we’ve been able to pinpoint three of the five other games that were greenlit from this period and it’s believed that more games have also been greenlit since.
Speaking to sources, it’s understood that Panzer Dragoon, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Sakura Taisen will all have new games and are all in their early stages of development, too. Unfortunately, though, Insider Gaming wasn’t able to verify the other two games that were greenlit, but recent trademark filings could give a strong indication.
Following the ‘New Era, New Energy’ announcement, though, it was spotted by Gematsu that SEGA did file for a total of 12 trademarks, which became public on December 6, 2023. The trademarks included some of the already announced games, including Crazy Taxi, Shinobi, Jet Set Radio, and Streets of Rage, but also included eight more games that have yet to be announced.
The trademarks include:
- Alex Kidd
- After Burner
- House of the Dead
- Outrun
- Super Monkey Ball
- Altered Beast Eternal
- Champions Kid
- Chameleon
Although none of these trademarks cover the three games we’ve heard are on the way, two of these could be the titles that we’ve not been able to pin down – And anyhow, it’s always fun to speculate!
What do you think of Panzer Dragoon, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Sakura Taisen potentially coming back in the next couple of years? Let us know in the comments.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is an anime are you sure you don’t mean something else? It’s originated as an anime and I believe Khara own the rights now.
Panzer Dragoon got a remake not long ago and Sakura Wars got a new game not long ago so it’s not too shocking. Shenmue 4 is something they should do from the RGG studio and a new Nights. Speaking off where is Virtua Fighter 6 you guys have any information on that?
They should bring Burning Rangers, Shadow The Hedgehog, Otogi, Sonic Riders, Deep Fear, Shinning Force, Skies Of Arcadia, Phantasy Star, Nights, Dynamite Cop, Virtua Hero, Virtua Cop, Fighting Vipers, Madworld, Vanquish, Shenmue, Yakuza PSP, Groove On Fight/Power Instinct, Devil Survivor, Jack Frost Bros, Snow Board Kids, Crusader Of Centy, Monster Boy, ComixZone, Zombie Revenge/House Of The Dead, Resonance Of Fate, Gun Valkyrie, some remakes would be good too.
Neon Genesis Evangelion is an anime and Sega doesn’t own it I think you messed up somewhere
I think you mean Demon Slayer Sega made that game not Neon Genesis Evangelion. Hinokami Chronicles 2 makes sense.
Cant we get skies of arcadia? That has to be top behind panzer dragoon as far as I’m concerned
“New Sakura Wars”, don’t do that… don’t give me hope.
They made one on PS4 not long ago
At the bottom there, did you mean Kid Chameleon?
Nah! Altered Beast Eternal, Champions Kid, and Chameleon are hallowed classics!!! ?
Yeah, I think he meant
Altered Beast
Eternal Champions
&
Kid Chameleon
