Dead Cells publisher and developer Motion Twin has released a new gameplay trailer for Windblown, the team’s next action roguelite.
Motion Twin first announced Windblown at The Game Awards 2023. The announcement trailer did offer a few glimpses of gameplay, but it was mostly cinematic. Although, like today’s trailer, it also confirmed it will launch into PC Early Access in 2024.
Neither trailer revealed an exact release date for Early Access, though fans can wishlist the game now via Steam.
Today’s trailer reveals many more key mechanics in action, including hero abilities and colorful new environments. A lot of hype has been built around Windblown since Dead Cells launched in 2018, to widespread acclaim from both critics and players.
Last February, Motion Twin revealed that “update 35 for Dead Cells marks the end of our creative journey on the game”. Without any new content coming to Dead Cells, fans are clamoring for something new.
Fortunately, Windblown falls right into the same genres, and the trailers do look inspired so far. The Steam page describes it as a “lightning-fast action roguelite for 1-3 players”. Players can absorb enemy powers and then recraft their gear.
Motion Twin developed Dead Cells, with Evil Empire then taking the reigns to continue its post-launch content. Both studios have since moved on to new projects. This week, Insider Gaming exclusively reported on Evil Empire’s new Prince of Persia game. There are plans to release the game into Early Access later this year on Steam.
