Embracer Is Appointing a New CEO in August

Embracer’s current CEO will step down to take another position in the company, and the deputy CEO will fill the position in August 2025.

Embracer Co-Founder and CEO Transitioning to Executive Chair of the Board

According to a report by GameIndustry.Biz, Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors has been proposed to take on the role of Executive Chair of the Board, while the current chair, Kicki Wallje-Lund, has been proposed to become the deputy chair of the board. In August 2025, the deputy CEO and boss of Crystal Dynamics and Plaion, Phil Rogers, will take on the position of CEO at Embracer.

Wingefors will also join CEO and co-founder Anton Westbergh as the director of Coffee Stain Group. Additional directors will be appointed “no later than August 2025.” Coffee Stain Group was spun into a standalone group of over 250 game developers and publishers working towards community-driven experiences. The group will feature Coffee Stain, Ghost Ship, and Tuxedo Labs.

The former CEO of Embracer stated, “With the start of this new phase, I am thankful for the years and lessons learned as CEO of Embracer.” Wingefors added, “The road has not always been straight”, but he stands proud of the achievements accomplished by their talented teams. The new position will allow the former CEO to take on “strategic initiatives, M&A, and capital allocation, ensuring Embracer’s continued growth and success.”

Wingefors also praised the new Embracer CEO, stating he is “more convinced than ever that the best is still ahead of us.” He has worked closely with Phil Rogers and has “high confidence in his abilities.” Wingefors is looking forward to “a continued close collaboration” that will help strengthen the business and drive value in the future.

The former CEO has faced an eventful term with Embracer, from bringing on high-profile acquisitions like Gearbox, Saber Interactive, and Crystal Dynamics, to facing studio closures, mass layoffs, and eventually selling off Gearbox and Saber Interactive.

In other news, Embracer Group plans to release ‘76 different games‘ next year. What are your thoughts on Embracer appointing a new CEO in August? Let us know below and join the official Insider Gaming forums discussion.

  • Just fold everything into THQ Nordic. They lost valuable assets like Saber already. Hopefully we get some good games like Epic Mickey 2 remake and The Simpsons Hit & Run remake. A Tak reboot since THQ has the license. If they have Sleeping Dogs just have Saber remake it.
