The Embracer Group layoff parade is continuing right before holiday vacations start as the company is laying off employees at 3D Realms and Slipgate Ironworks.
“For Christmas this year, I got laid off,” Lead Composer, Sound Design Michael Markie posted on Twitter. “If anyone is looking for a level designer or audio please hit me up!”
“Several sources have told me this bad news… Sorry to hear about another drop of the axe by Embracer Group, this time landing on Danish 3D Realm,” 3D Realms founder Scott Miller posted.

“A lot of people, including core devs, will be looking for work asap. Hopefully they land jobs soon. This one hits me hard because I worked with the new 3DR from 2014 up until when they were bought out by Embracer 2.5 yrs ago.”
Another, now former, sound designer at 3D Realms posted: “I guess 2023 wouldn’t be complete without me losing the best job I’ve ever had in my life. I’ll figure it out… I guess.”
It’s unclear how many people have been let go in this latest round of layoffs by Embracer Group. What is clear is that more hardworking people are now out of work in a year when nearly 10,000 people have been let go from game studios around the world.
Since August, Embracer Group has laid off employees from 16 of its studios as part of a “restructuring”. It’s expected that more layoffs will come in 2024.
