Bethesda Released a New Elder Scrolls Game But Didn’t Say Anything

Hours ago, mobile game fans stumbled upon ‘The Elder Scrolls: Castles’, a game in early access that has been developed and released by ‘Bethesda Softworks LLC’ on the Google Play store. From early impressions handed down by those who have access to the game, it’s essentially Fallout Shelter but set in The Elder Scrolls universe.

What’s strange here is that The Elder Scrolls: Castles has received no marketing, there were no press releases saying it had entered early access, and no campaigns to build any hype for the product. Currently, it’s like Bethesda doesn’t want to acknowledge that this game even exists – but we’ve reached out to get some clarification on that.

What Is The Elder Scrolls: Castles?

The Elder Scrolls: Castles looks like a Fallout Shelter game set in The Elder Scrolls universe that features many of the same elements as the post-apocalyptic title that was released way back in 2015, almost in parallel with Fallout 4. It sees players create a castle from the ground up, form a community, undertake quests, and – as the game’s description says – ‘build a dynasty’.

Early feedback from The Elder Scrolls subreddit suggests it’s lore-heavy and ‘surprisingly in-depth’ with lots of character details and everything one would expect from a game set in TES’ universe.

This makes it more bizarre that Bethesda hasn’t devoted a single dime to marketing the game. If there’s one thing Elder Scrolls fans love, it’s a bit of lore. It genuinely looks like a solid offering from the screenshots provided on the Google Play store. There are what looks like turn-based battles, choice-and-consequence sections, and a more diverse building engine than the one featured in Fallout Shelter.

As one user pointed out, it’s possible that it was set to live on Google Play by mistake, and again, we’ve reached out to Bethesda for some comments on that.

In fact, here’s Bethesda’s response:

The Elder Scrolls: Castles is being developed by our talented mobile team behind Fallout Shelter at Bethesda Game Studios. We’re excited to share an early access version of the game with a limited number of players and listen to feedback as we improve the game over time.
