As first spotted by GamesRadar, FromSoftware’s Hidetaka Miyazaki recently spoke with Zhihu, stating that Shadow of the Erdtree will be the “first and last DLC” for Elden Ring.
This interview with Zhihu is loosely translated. However, Miyazaki also adds that there are no current plans for more Elden Ring content. This appears to reinforce their DLC comment.
Elden Ring fans are surely disappointed, and the game was a major hit, reaching 20 million copies sold by February 2023. Miyazaki explained that selling Elden Ring’s vast world in pieces could reduce freedom and “the sense of adventure.”
That lines up with the DLC’s seamless travel between its new world and the base game world.
So, early rumors about the Thrustmaster collaborations probably don’t point to a second DLC anymore. Miyazaki had a very distinct, creative reason to keep Elden Ring DLC at Shadow of the Erdtree. But themed Thrustmaster controllers could still arrive sometime in the future.
FromSoftware first announced the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC last year. But the devs didn’t offer up an official trailer until February 2024.
Shadow of the Erdtree will feature a new story set in the Land of Shadow, more weapons and equipment, fresh enemies, and more. The DLC will launch on June 21, 2024. It will be available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
In the meantime, fans are also curious about the potential mobile version, since recent reports suggest its development might be less likely.
