Elden Ring was released in 2022 and became a phenomenal success overnight, going on to sell more than 20 million copies in the space of a year. It remains an extremely popular game today, with die-hard fans constantly finding new ways to challenge themselves in the open-world, unforgiving title that was created by FromSoftware.
It has recently been revealed by sources close to Reuters that a mobile version of Elden Ring is in development at Tencent, with the Chinese firm having acquired the licensing rights for Elden Ring mere months after the game was released.
‘Progress Has Been Slow’
In the report published by Reuters, it was revealed that the creation of a mobile Elden Ring title is an attempt by Tencent to freshen up its line-up of games. It was said that ‘a team of a few dozen people’ have been hard at work on the portable title, but in the words of Reuters’ sources, ‘progress has been slow’.
It was stressed that Tencent endeavours to make Elden Ring mobile a free-to-play title with in-app purchases, which is a common enough operating model for mobile games – even if it’s one that players aren’t overly fond of. This would align it closely with the likes of Genshin Impact, an overwhelmingly successful game that was created by Tencent’s closest rival.
There’s no more information available at present regarding the Elden Ring mobile game.
