The co-creator of the Injustice and Mortal Kombat series, Ed Boon, has revealed that the recent Injustice 3 testing rumors are false.
For those unaware, recently there was a AAA fighting game mentioned along with the words ‘major 2D fighting game’ that was supposed to playtested in California and many players speculated that it could be Injustice 3. However, Boon has now revealed that rumors about the game being tested are false.
Ed Boon Doesn’t Dismiss Injustice 3 Being Developed
The Chief Creative Officer at NetherRealm Studios, Ed Boon, recently posted on X (formerly Twitter) to debunk some Injustice 3 rumors. He first debunked the rumor that NetherRealm is partnering with Insomniac Games to develop the first ‘AAAA fighting game’, saying it was 100% false. In the thread of the same post, he was asked about Injustice 3 along with other NetherRealm titles.

The X user asked Boon whether NetherRealm was testing Injustice 3, Mortal Kombat 13, or Mortal Kombat at the moment, and the series creator responded, “All False.” However, Boon followed up with another reply stating, “But just because a game isn’t currently being tested externally doesn’t necessarily mean the game isn’t in development.” So Boon didn’t negate any of these titles being in development.
NetheRealm studios hasn’t officially confirmed that Injustice 3 was in development. Boon asked in 2022 whether players wanted Injustice 3 or Mortal Kombat 12 next and ended up releasing Mortal Kombat 1 the next year. Several rumors and leaks have pointed to the game’s existence, including a resume from an anonymous artist currently working at Warner Bros. Games.
