Ahead of the game’s full reveal on August 16, EA Sports has revealed the official cover athlete for NHL 24.
This year’s cover athlete is none other than Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar.
“It’s so cool,” Makar told ESPN in an interview about his selection. “When they were considering me to be a part of this, it was just kind of like a ‘wow’ moment. You grow up, you play all these games.”
The 24-year-old Makar has become a star in the NHL over his four seasons in the league. Not only did he win the Calder Trophy as Rookie of the Year, but he’s also taken home the Norris Trophy as the league’s best defenseman as well as the Conn Smythe Trophy as the MVP of the NHL Playoffs back in the 2021-2022 season.
Makar becomes just the fifth defenseman of the last 28 years to be on the cover of an EA Sports NHL release. The others were: Scott Stevens for NHL 96, Chris Pronger for NHL 2000, Dion Phaneuf for NHL 09, and P.K. Subban for NHL 19.
