You might have seen the recent announcement from PlayStation State of Play regarding the PC launch of God of War Ragnarok. We all knew it was coming. Following the immense success of the previous title on Steam, it was only a matter of time before Sony got wise. But there’s a caveat. Does God of War Ragnarok require a PSN account?
Do You Need PSN to Play God of War Ragnarok on PC?
Unfortunately, to play God of War Ragnarok on PC, you need a PSN account and login. This is extremely unfortunate, considering there are only approximately 70 countries with PSN support. There are significantly more without PSN support, well over 120, that simply won’t be able to purchase or play the game on Steam.
Sony is shunning its countless fans across the world, preventing them from enjoying what is often considered one of the most cinematic action adventures in gaming today. We’re hoping they turn this decision around, but it’s unlikely. Many countries still can’t buy or play Helldivers 2, even despite the massive turnout by the community.

Is God of War Ragnarok Multiplayer or Single-Player?
Despite the always-online requirements and PSN, God of War Ragnarok isn’t a multiplayer game. It doesn’t have a cooperative game mode, leaderboards, or competitive PvP in any way, shape, or form. It’s a totally single-player adventure.
Sony continues to push its PSN requirements on PC players primarily because it wants to bring everyone into its ecosystem. In God of War Ragnarok, PSN is “necessary” because of trophies and PlayStation Overlay.
We’re certainly not thrilled about the PSN requirements in the action-adventure, but there are plenty more upcoming games to see this summer. Don’t miss a single one by signing up for the official Insider Gaming Newsletter!
