Diablo 4 Best Class & Build Tier List in Season 9

Diablo 4 is now on Season 9, with Horadric Powers being the new theme. Here’s a breakdown of the best build for each class in the game.

Diablo 4 Season 9 is all about Horadric Powers, ancient abilities that allow players to boost their characters and create some new versions of existing builds. They also replace Boss Powers from Season 9.

This means those jumping into the new season with their favorite class will want to know the best build to use, and it’s important to point out that the meta has shifted considerably since last season. This means the build you used last season may no longer be worth running.

So, below we’ll confirm which class is best in Diablo 4 Season 9, we’ll also reveal which is the best build for them and every other class.

Which is The Best Class & Build in Season 9?

Sorcerer and Necromancer are currently the go-to classes in Diablo 4 Season 9.

Remember, as the priority for most players is pushing to endgame quickly and dominating once you’re there, the below builds will be focused on this rather than leveling or PvP.

However, each of the builds below is perfectly suitable for leveling through the campaign or battling against other players. Here are the best classes ranked in Season 9, along with their best build.

ASorcerer Chain Lightning Sorc
ANecromancerBloodwave Necro
BDruidCompanion Druid
CRogueDeath Trap Rogue
CBarbarianEarthquake Barb

It’s worth pointing out that every build listed above could be considered S-tier in the Season 9 meta for that specific class. However, when compared with other classes, some simply don’t match up in terms of power.

Therefore, we’ve given each class a ranking to determine where they sit in comparison to the others, with the Spiritborn reigning supreme this season. That is mostly due to the most recent updates in Season 9 benefit this class the most, boosting their various skills and builds.

Of course, this is all likely to change by the time Season 10 rolls around, so make sure you come back to see what’s changed—and which class and build is now top of the pile.

Diablo 4 Class Breakdown

Here’s a brief explanation of every class in Diablo 4, what they do, and where they stand in Season 9.

Spiritborn

The Spiritborn was the first DLC class in Diablo 4, being added to the game as part of the Vessel of Hatred expansion. They’re a reworking (of sorts) of the Witch Doctor class from Diablo 3, but have traded voodoo magic for spirit animals.

They’re a close combat-focused dexterity class who channels the spirits of animals like the eagle, jaguar, centipede, or gorilla to infuse their attacks with power, as they leap around the battlefield killing demons with ease.

In Season 9, the Spiritborn is middle of the road when compared with some other classes, but their Quill Volley build is still incredibly dangerous in the right hands. This build was nerfed in Season 7, but it still remains the most powerful setup and puts the Spiritborn at the top of the meta this season.

Sorcerer

The Sorcerer is Diablo 4’s traditional caster class, focusing on elemental magic spells like ice, fire, and lightning to deal death to demons. They’re glass cannons that do massive AOE damage from afar, but are quite weak when things get up close and personal.

They’re high up in the meta in Season 9, but have been pushed off the top spot by the Spiritborn class.

Necromancer

The Necromancer is a battlemage who uses the power of death against Diablo and his demons. While the Necro is adept at using macabre weapons like sythes, sickles, and poisoned daggers against their enemies in close combat, they often prefer to lurk in the background, commanding a small army of undead minions like skeletons and golems to do their bidding.

They also like to cast blood, bone, and shadow magic, as well as a range of curses. In Season 9, the Necromancer is just very nearly tied with the Sorcerer for second-best class, with their Blood Wave build being high in their meta this time around.

Druid

The Druid uses the forces of nature to send the demon hordes packing. Like the Spiritborn, the Druid is also uses their connection to animals to bring pain to their enemies, however, they do this by either summoning them as pets, or by morphing into them completely.

While the Druid can command a small army of wolves, ravens, and other creatures to do their bidding, they can also shapeshift into a werewolf or werebear. Not only that, the Druid can call upon the elements of wind and earth to come to their aid, crushing enemies with rockslides, melting them with lava, or shredding them with tornadoes.

In Season 9, the Druid is rather mid in the meta this season, but their Companion build is still one of the best you can use.

Rogue

As the name suggests, the Rogue is Diablo 4’s classic dexterity build, rounding out the Warrior, Wizard, and Rogue RPG archetypes. They’re a master with bows and setting traps, and while they can be weak in close combat, most enemies won’t get a chance to strike due to their speed and proficiency with knives.

The Rogue class has been in Diablo since the very beginning, but the class was split between various subclasses in Diablo 2 and 3. However, in Diablo 4, the Rogue is back, combining all the very best elements of those other classes into one deadly package.

While the Rogue is low in the meta in Season 9, just like the other classes, they too have an S-tier build in the Death Trap Rogue. So, while every other class is stronger this season, things will be balanced if you use this build.

Barbarian

The Barbarian is the closest thing Diablo 4 has to letting you play as the Hulk. They’re a melee powerhouse, favoring brute strength and raw power over anything else. A one-person army, the Barbarian can rush into battle against vast mobs of enemies and carve a bloody path through them in no time.

The class also has a deep mastery over weapons, and can wield more than any other character, switching between multiple equipped items on the fly, which makes them a joy to play as for those who can’t decide between a sword and an axe!

In Season 9, the Barbarian is ranked lowest in the meta, but they still have some A-class builds, meaning they’re still a viable option.
