Surgent Studios Reveals Neil Newbon and Ben Starr as Leads in Dead Take

Surgent Studios has revealed that Neil Newbon and Ben Starr will both lead Dead Take, the studio’s next game after Tales of Kenzera: ZAU. Dead Take is a different premise entirely, plunging players into a psychological horror that fuses live-action video sequences with a thrilling story hellbent on uncovering the seedy underbelly of the entertainment industry.

In Dead Take, Ben Starr plays Vinny Monroe, while Neil Newbon plays Chase Lowry. In a brief gameplay teaser released today by Surgent Studios, it’s shown that both Monroe and Lowry play the role of ‘Willie’.

‘Truly Raw and Honest’

Dead Take is a world away from Tales of Kenzera: ZAU, Surgent Studios’ debut title, which emerged last year to positive reviews. In Dead Take, players navigate an abandoned mansion in Los Angeles, solving puzzles and uncovering secrets and clues to subsequently discover everything about the ‘dark secrets’ behind the entertainment industry.

In a statement, Surgent Studios’ creative director, Abubakar Salim, said:

As actors in games and beyond, Neil, Ben, and I have leaned on each other through some extremely gruelling times.

In those moments, we exchanged some of the horror stories that built the foundations of this game. Not only do they bring considerable talent to the project, but they also helped create a space in which we could all be truly raw and honest. I can’t wait for you to see the calibre of their performances in Dead Take.

Dead Take is being published by Pocketpair Publishing, making it one of the first games to appear under the label.

There isn’t a release date for Dead Take, but it has been promised it’ll come this year, exclusively on PC.

Beyond Dead Take, Abubakar Salim advised me in April that the studio is still ‘cooking’ Project Uso.
