In a recent video shared on social media, actor Dave Bautista revealed he’s back in the gym and gaining muscle fast to play Kratos in God of War, the upcoming series created for Amazon Prime Video. Bautista was cast earlier this year after Ryan Hurst, who was formerly assigned to the role, suffered a debilitating injury preventing him from continuing with the spot.
It was confirmed in August that Bautista, a long-time fan pick for Kratos, was signed to play the lead in the new live-action adaptation. Despite production still being underway on the show’s first season, Amazon has already greenlit a second season, and they’re reportedly scheduled to be filmed back-to-back.
Bautista Returns to Form for God of War
Bautista has long professed a desire to appear in a video game movie, and his first pick was always as Marcus Fenix in Gears of War. In lieu of that opportunity, he has stepped up to assume control of Kratos in God of War, another legendary role and one that’s perfect for the 57-year-old.
In a recent clip posted on social media, Bautista revealed he’d gained 20 lbs of muscle ahead of filming God of War, notching back up to 250 lbs. He’s still a sight short of his billed weight when he performed in the WWE, which saw him floating around 290 lbs, but he’s 57 years old, so allowances must be made!
It was revealed in July that the God of War TV show would recast Kratos after Ryan Hurst tore a bicep while shooting. It was a tragic situation for all involved, but the injury would have required too long a recovery period for Hurst to realistically retain the role.
