Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel’s Release is At Least ‘Four to Five’ Years Away

CD Projekt Red CEO’s recent comments suggest that Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel will take at least 4-5 years to release.

Don’t Expect Cyberpunk 2077’s Sequel Until 2030 or Later

As spotted by GamesRadar, CD Projekt Red’s co-CEO, Michał Nowakowski, spoke about Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel, or now Cyberpunk 2’s, release window during a Q&A segment of the latest earnings call. Nowakowski was asked whether Cyberpunk 2’s release will follow The Witcher 4’s pattern, which started pre-production in 2022 and is expected to be released in 2027.

Nowakowski replied that the studio usually takes “four to five years on average” to progress from the pre-production phase to the “final release date.” However, there are “many variables” that can change the final release window; hence, he will not talk about any “specific years.”

During the same earnings call, CDPR confirmed that Cyberpunk 2 has entered its pre-production phase. Recently, we also learned from the original creator of the Cyberpunk universe that the sequel will have another city apart from Night City, which is inspired by a ‘Chicago Gone Wrong’ setting. Additionally, the developers are working on the most realistic and reactive crowd system yet for the upcoming title.

What are your thoughts on Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel not releasing for at least the next 4-5 years? Let us know below and join the official Insider Gaming forums discussion.
