Cyberpunk 2077 has undergone one of the biggest rags-to-riches stories in the history of gaming. It suffered immeasurably when it was released (as did those playing it), but owing to steady, consistent work by CD Projekt RED, it has seen an undeniable resurgence in the last year or so.
Now, speaking at an investor meeting in Warsaw, CEO of CD Projekt, Adam Kicinski, revealed that there are intentions to release a Cyberpunk 2077 Game of the Year edition in 2023, following the launch of Phantom Liberty and the application of another ‘substantial update’.
Beyond that, the team has tangible plans to put Cyberpunk 2077 to bed and, of course, build out a sequel.
‘It’s The Natural Order of Things’
It was Stockwatch.pl that first broke the news, echoing the words of Adam Kicinski as he spoke highly of CD Projekt and the future of Cyberpunk. It was with a resolute tone that he confirmed that, in 2023, Cyberpunk 2077 will absolutely receive a GOTY edition, coming in the form of a full-priced release.
It’s the natural order of things – it was the same with The Witcher, which after both expansions was finally released as a Game of the Year Edition and has been on the market that way ever since. The same can be expected in this case.

There’s a solid plan in place to release Phantom Liberty, the first (and only) expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, then the team will deploy the Game of the Year edition, which will almost definitely include Phantom Liberty by default.
In October, CDP revealed a sequel to 2077, codenamed Orion, but they can only begin working in earnest on that game once 2077 is fully wrapped up. This particular droplet of news came hand-in-hand with the revelation that CD Projekt wants to further expand its presence by opening an office in Boston, Massachusetts.
All-in-all, it has been a banner year for CD Projekt, following the ongoing success of Cyberpunk 2077, the Witcher 3 receiving a next-gen update, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners becoming an overnight smash hit. Reportedly, CDP has just had its best third quarter in the history of its operations, according to a financial report.
There’s plenty in store for CDP’s future – it’s absolutely time to watch this space.
