Modders have revealed that they are already working on a Crimson Desert co-op mod, and it’s shaping up pretty nicely.
Crimson Desert is a massive open-world title with loads of MMO elements, which has led many to hope a multiplayer mode could be in the works. Even though the developers haven’t written it off, it seems like it will be a challenge for them. However, modders already have a functional multiplayer mod in the works.
Crimson Desert Multiplayer Mod Shows Promise
A new post on the r/CrimsonDesert subreddit reveals the Crimson Desert co-op multiplayer mod is in testing. The post features a video showing two players in the same game world, traversing the open world and using attack moves. The modders point out what seems to be working in the game right now and what isn’t.
The modder confirmed that in early tests, the Crimson Desert multiplayer mod lets players see the other player move, run, jump, glide, climb walls, pull up into ledges, and perform attacks and skills with full animations and effects. Players can also see other players change their equipment and connect with them through Steam, with no port forwarding required.
Lastly, players currently have separate quests, loot, and inventory, and the developers of the Crimson Desert co-op mod are experimenting with shared damage on enemies.
As for what isn’t working, the worlds aren’t synchronized, so each player has their own world, which means enemies aren’t in the same spot for both players. Similarly, one player’s mount isn’t visible on the other player’s screen, so it looks like the character is riding in thin air. Additionally, things like pulling trees or grabbing chickens are only visible for the person doing the act.
The mod seems to be in early development, but it seems to be functioning quite well. Players can’t wait for a full-fledged release of the mod.
