Thibaut Courtois’s investment firm, NXTPLAY, has invested in Astralis ownership consortium Fusion Esports Group, giving the Real Madrid goalkeeper a stake in one of esports’ most legendary organizations.
The four-time Counter-Strike Major-winning organization has been under the ownership of Fusion Esports Group since September 2025.
Astralis announces Thibaut Courtois investment in Fusion Esports Group
Through NXTPLAY, Courtois, alongside co-founder and NXTPLAY CEO Gonzalo Vila, has stakes across several sectors, including sports, lifestyle brands, and gaming.
The investment group holds stakes in Belgian football team KRC Genk, French team Le Mans FC, E1 Series racing team Sierra Racing Club, and non-sporting brands like Oakberry and tax-free shopping platform STAMP.
The news comes as Astralis continues to raise investment under Danish investor consortium, Fusion Esports Group. The group acquired Astralis in September 2025 after reports revealed deep financial struggles within Astralis’ previous ownership last June.
The group, led by CEO Jonas ‘calc’ Gunderse and CRO Jakob Lund Kristensen, has garnered several new sponsorships since the takeover, including betting partner Stake and streaming platform Zero1Gaming, also fostering a partnership with SEO platform Bazoom.
In December 2025, Astralis admitted to delayed payment of wages prior to the StarLadder Budapest Major, three months in to the consortium’s ownership of the organization.
Gundersen blamed the delay on the situation the investment group inherited in a quote to Danish outlet Ekstra Bladet, saying, “We took over a company facing certain challenges we were fully aware of from the beginning.” (translated)
Since then, Astralis acquired Love ‘phzy’ Smidebrant and Gytis ‘ryu’ Glušauskas as the roster moved away from a full Danish lineup, and towards a financially prudent roster, while continuing to grow their list of partners in the commercial space.
