Counter-Strike Matches Can Be Viewed in First Ever Virtual Esports Stadium

Software developer Virtex has fully unveiled the first-ever virtual esports arena which will allow users to view Counter-Strike matches.

The Virtex Stadium aims to offer an authentic experience for viewers by not only including a massive stadium that can host viewers from around the world, but also a lounge bar, main hall, and lobby where users can socialize with their friends. Virtex has partnered with Counter-Strike: Global Offensive which will be a launch title for the platform with its sequel, Counter-Strike 2, set to join the line-up of titles when it launches this Summer.

Viewers will be able to watch Counter-Strike matches in real-time from the huge virtual stadium, but if they want to get knee-deep in the action, they can seamlessly transition into the game’s map to view the action up close. Counter-Strike was the third most-watched esports title last year with data from escharts showing that the title enjoyed an all-time peak viewer count of over 2 million and the accumulative prize fund of CS:GO tournaments rounding out at $15,651,065.

There’s currently no set release date for the Virtex Stadium but users can sign up for the Closed Beta now. Along with viewing matches with friends, users will also be able to create their own custom avatar, it all feels very Ready Player One.

As it stands Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Echo VR are the only titles that are compatible with the platform but Virtex are encouraging users to suggest games that they would like to see added to the platform. The arena is sure to have a positive impact on the esports community and is set to replicate the drama and excitement of live esports events. Users can dive into the Virtex Stadium during its Closed Beta phase on desktop and compatible VR headsets.

What games would you like to see added to the stadium’s lineup of titles?
