Walking Dead Star Reveals New Resident Evil Fan Film Based on Baker Family

Chandler Riggs, who you’d likely know best as Carl Grimes from AMC’s The Walking Dead, has unveiled a fan-made Resident Evil project centered on 2017’s Resident Evil 7. It’s coming out tomorrow, October 14, and it stars Riggs himself as Ethan Winters, who was the protagonist of the award-winning first-person horror title that significantly changed the perspective of Resident Evil.

The fan-made film adapts a particular sequence from the game, creating something new with a 20-minute runtime that has reportedly been made simply because Riggs loves the Resident Evil universe that much.

Resident Evil Clashes with Resident Evil

In an interview, Riggs explained that it was a race against the clock to beat Zack Cregger’s new Resident Evil movie, which has emerged in recent weeks to critical acclaim. Coincidentally, the movie is led by Austin Abrams, who had a nine-episode run in The Walking Dead as Ron Anderson, an inhabitant of Alexandria (and a bit of a dick).

Riggs said:

We were in pre-production when the article came out that Zack Cregger was going to do his movie. I was like, ‘Oh man, all right, we’ve got to get ours out first.’

We were trying to beat the clock and get it out about a month ago, but parts just didn’t align that way.

I’ve been looking forward to [Cregger’s movie] for so long. And I mean, one of the big reasons I even made this is, you know, I was just dying to see a good, true-to-the-game live-action adaptation of Resident Evil. I cannot wait to see the new one.

Riggs’ new perspective of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard takes a new approach, giving Ethan Winters a third-person presence and a face. In the 2017 title, he went almost entirely unseen.

The teaser trailer, which you can see below, boasts genuinely impressive production value:

Jack Baker, one of the most iconic villains from the game and from the wider Resident Evil universe, is played by Jason Douglas, who also starred in The Walking Dead. He played Tobin, another Alexandria resident, for a run lasting 28 episodes.
