Call of Duty’s Dogs of War Bundle is All Fans Want, But It Still Falls Behind Kooky Collaborations

If you’ve been at all connected to Call of Duty in recent weeks, you’ll be aware of the ‘skins fatigue’ that players are going through. For a few years, Call of Duty has been nothing but a breeding ground for collaborations, taking on a Fortnite-esque approach to marketing and allowing players to purchase hundreds of skins for their characters, some of which are borderline bizarre.

The breath of fresh air that is the Dogs of War bundle is arriving late to the party, and despite it being exactly what fans want, it’s being pushed to the wayside behind collaborations and more ostentatious, overt skin bundles.

Give Me Milsim

Fans have been clamouring for grounded skin packs in Call of Duty for the longest time. For a game centered around military conflicts, it seems bizarre to some that players can run around as Beavis and Butthead or Nicki Minaj, but that’s the world we live in. The bundles continue to sell, so Activision continues to introduce them.

Recently, the COD Blog was updated to detail the entire roadmap for Season 5, which includes a new tracer pack called the Dogs of War bundle. It has been immediately identified by fans as being something they want more of, but it’s little more than a footnote on the page, while the ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ collaboration gets a full segment in the breakdown.

In recent days, Battlefield 6 has been leaked all over social media, and one thing that has drawn a lot of attention is the back-to-basics, grounded faction skins. They’re realistic, believable, and exactly what players want from a game like Battlefield. Fans have been begging Electronic Arts to avoid adding quirky skins to the franchise and copying Call of Duty.

The Black Ops 6 and Warzone Season 5 update adds futuristic, augmented warriors, glowing superhero-like characters, monstrous mutants, and Peter Stormare dressed as a Viking of some kind.

And then the Dogs of War bundle, the SAS-themed skin pack that’s refreshingly simple.
