Call of Duty: Black Ops 7’s reveal during the Xbox Game Showcase has revealed that the game will be set in 2035 and will be a Black Ops 2 sequel, confirming past reports and leaks of the game.
In this article, we’ll break down all of the rumors we know so far about Black Ops 7, including some of our own past reports, to give you an idea of what to expect with the next Call of Duty instalment. As always, it should be stressed that the following information is based on leaks and rumors and should not be taken as official, unless stated otherwise.
Black Ops 7 Campaign
Insider Gaming exclusively reported in December 2023 that 2025’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 7’s campaign is set to be a sequel of Black Ops 2, set around 2030 (now confirmed to be 2035).
According to our own reports, both Woods and Mason (Mason confirmed in the reveal trailer) are set to make returns in some way as they fight against a new villain following the death of Menendez. The Black Ops 7 reveal trailer has already confirmed that Mason will be leading a new set of Black Ops operatives in the games campaign, with Menendez being confirmed to have a major part into Black Ops 7. Menendez’s report contradicts our earliest report, but as of the time of writing, it’s unclear if Black Ops 7 will also have another main villain.
A recent leak from a Call of Duty survey revealed that campaign will now allow 4-player co-op and will include exploration of an open world, which is believed to be an old Warzone map asset called ‘Avalon’.
Black Ops 7 Multiplayer
The slightly futuristic setting in Black Ops 7 is one of the biggest changes coming to Call of Duty this year, and will see the return of wall running; a movement feature not seen since the exo-suit era, It’s a feature that has been leaked by several different sources, including the Call of Duty survey sent to some players in April and dataminers also finding references in the Call of Duty game files. In fact, dataminers have not only found references to the return of wallrunning, but have also managed to implement it into Black Ops 6.
In addition to the new movement coming to Black Ops 7, its also been said that multiplayer will see the likes of a 32vs32 gamemode, and the return of some popular Call of Duty maps with a futuristic Japanese theme (believed to be Black Ops 2 maps).
The Call of Duty survey also revealed that a new levelling system is set to be incorporated into Black Ops 7, which will allow players to level up everything from their weapons to perks and killstreaks.
Although not yet confirmed, it’s also worth stressing that an Insider Gaming report from December 2023 also outlined that the developers were also toying with the return of the Black Ops 2 Pick-10 Create-a-Class system. But as of the time of writing, no further leaks or rumors on the Pick-10 system have been revealed.
Black Ops 7 Zombies
Black Ops 7 zombies is said to see one of the bigger changes this time around, with multiple reports and rumors stating that its launch map will be the “biggest ever” seen in zombies. According to Insider Gaming sources, the map takes inspiration from Tranzit and will include some kind of travel system.
But arguably one of the biggest things to return in Black Ops 7 zombies is the return of the original zombies crew. According to our report from October 2024, Dempsey, Tank, Takeo, and Nikolai are all said to be making a return, with Black Ops 7 also said to have 6 fully-fledged round-based zombies maps throughout the games cycle.
As for when we’ll get more official information on Black Ops 7 is unclear, but pre-orders for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 appear to be going live on June 20, so perhaps more information will be revealed then.
