Marathon, the new first-person shooter by Bungie, has confirmed its very first esports tournament, the ‘Tau Ceti Cup’ just a week after the game’s release.
Bungie had not previously confirmed any plans to push its new extraction shooter as an esport, though the multiplayer game does have a ranked mode and competitive interest. However, the Tau Ceti Cup is more of a showmatch featuring popular streamers, rather than a sporting event to determine the world’s best Marathon team.
The inaugural Marathon tournament will feature six teams of content creators, including the likes of BurntPeanut, Shroud, and Aztecross, competing on Saturday, March 14.
The winning team will earn custom-made Marathon Jackets made by Australian cosplayer Vamprea, as well as rewards for their community of viewers.
Bungie is also hosting a similar event for Australian creators only, called the Marathon Australia Invitational, with the winning team of the invite-only event receiving the same custom jackets and the game’s collector’s edition.
