Rebel Wolves, a studio bolstered by former CDPR talent, has revealed a 20-minute Blood of Dawnwalker gameplay overview, showcasing the core elements of the upcoming single-player RPG. At first blush, it looks great and has potential, but I can’t get away from it looking like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt with a parkour mod.
The video revealed that the game is at a pre-beta phase, and every ounce of what’s shown is actual gameplay. With that being said, you need to consider that not everything is going to look good just yet.
‘Bloody Conflicts Sweep The Lands’
Blood of Dawnwalker is an open-world, single-player RPG set in 14th-century Europe. That’s enough to make it feel like The Witcher right off the bat, but why should Rebel Wolves, a studio made up of developers with experience on The Witcher, do anything too different from what they’ve had success with?
The blurb on Blood of Dawnwalker is as follows:
14th-century Europe. Bloody conflicts sweep the lands, and the Black Death comes for the survivors. Vampires seize their opportunity to walk out of the shadows and claim what they’ve been denied for centuries: freedom, and the power that comes with it.
You play as Coen, a young man turned into a Dawnwalker, forever treading the line between the world of day and the realm of night. Fight for your humanity or embrace the cursed powers to save your family. Whatever your choice, the question stands: is your soul worth the lives of those you love?

It looks great, and we get valuable insights from the developers regarding the story, the protagonist, the combat mechanics, and the traversal and exploration features. One of the most intriguing elements of Blood of Dawnwalker is the verticality aspect, with players being able to scale buildings, leap across rooftops, and slide down walls with the use of vampiric claws.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is on track to be released in 2026. Do you think it’s your kind of game? Let me know on the Insider Gaming forum.
