Last week, Rob Wiethoff, the instantly recognizable voice of Red Dead’s John Marston, teased fans with a comment about ‘exciting news’ that he couldn’t yet reveal. His comments were ‘backed up’ by other actors from the franchise, including Arthur Morgan’s Roger Clark.
Naturally, this led many (including myself) to believe that news was incoming about a current-gen overhaul for Red Dead Redemption 2, potentially introducing that 60 FPS patch we’ve all been waiting for.
It now looks like the ‘exciting news’ they were talking about is a cast reunion in Florida.
Rug Pull
It could be argued that Wiethoff knew what he was doing when he made suggestive comments during a recent stream:
I got such exciting news. I can’t share it with you right now. It’s absolutely killing me.
By the end of this week, hopefully sooner – not as soon as tomorow, but definitely before Friday. Oh, my goodness! The news that I have to share, and I won’t be the only one sharing it, I cannot wait for you to know what’s going on.
And that’s all I can say. That’s all I can think about right now.
You will know soon enough. I am so excited, I truly cannot think about anything else, especially playing this game, other than I want to tell you something so bad.
He has since backed away from that statement, explaining that he doesn’t ‘make announcements for Rockstar Games’ and that he accepts he ‘misled some people’.
Thanks to PushSquare for the spot on that video link.
On Reddit, a post surfaced with a promotional image from the National Gaming Expo, due to take place in Tampa, Florida, from August 8 – 10. This promo revealed that the entire main cast for both Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption 2 is headed to the NGE for a grand meet and greet.
Wiethoff’s original comments line up with the publishing date of this news, and both he and Clark are obvious components in the meet-and-greet. This has prompted fans to settle on the suggestion that this is what Wiethoff was talking about.
No 60 FPS update for Red Dead Redemption 2, no Nintendo Switch 2 port for the game… Just a meet and greet.
