Black Ops 6 is Adding a Literal Potato as a Battle Pass Reward

Call of Duty has had a reputation in recent years for incorporating events, crossovers, and other content that sometimes undermines the more serious nature of the game’s content. Well, Black Ops 6 Season 4 has a new Battle Pass, and it includes an exploding potato.

It was reported that Activision was aware that bizarre skins were making Call of Duty ‘look stupid.’ This doesn’t seem to have affected plans as CoD has recently added the Ballerina Operator skin to crossover with the movie, and now Season 4 seems to have an obtainable potato.

Revealed by Call of Duty social page Detonated, the ‘Boomtato’ Frag Grenade skin is part of the Season 4 Battle Pass.

It’s exactly as you can imagine, too: It’s a grenade with a literal potato skin. The Boomtato is purely cosmetic, and to the uninitiated, it comes across as another goofy skin that players will either love or hate.

However, one player may have uncovered a reference to the skin. @GhostDotMidi posted a clip from Call of Duty 2, showing an interaction once you get to a box of potatoes during the tutorial.

A soldier asks: “These are potatoes, Comrade Commissar—why are we using potatoes instead of real grenades?” As it’s a practice area, it’s more cost-effective to use potatoes, and this is likely what the Boomtato refers to.

Do you think this is a fun throwback to older CoD? Or is it too niche for most gamers to understand, and draw negativity to the nature of the game’s content again? Let us know through the Insider Gaming forum.
