Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake Could Now Be In Development

Last year, we reported exclusively on the list of Assassin’s Creed titles in development or planned at Ubisoft. At the time, we mentioned that the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake had recently been greenlit. Now, thanks to a reference that has surfaced on a LinkedIn profile, it seems that the development of the Black Flag Remake kicked off just two months later, in September 2023.

In a report published a month before our list was written up, news surfaced that Ubisoft Singapore would be working on the recreation of one of the most popular Assassin’s Creed games ever – Black Flag. Now, details have been discovered on the LinkedIn Profile of a Lead Artist at that very same studio, with claims that they have been working on an ‘unannounced project’ since September 2023 alongside the likes of Mirage and Valhalla’s Siege of Paris DLC.

Back to the Seas

An Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake would likely bring millions of players back to the franchise that, for some, lost its way over the last few years. Ubisoft abandoned the traditional operating model and opted to pursue enormous, RPG-based titles for its flagship franchise. However, 2023’s Assassin’s Creed: Mirage was seen as a turning point for the series, offering a much smaller, short-form adventure that felt much more like a classic AC game.

Black Flag pulled in tens of millions of players and is still popular today within that die-hard community. On Twitter, user JorRaptor shared a screenshot of a LinkedIn profile that suggests we could be heading back to Black Flag in just a few years:

Ubisoft has yet to formally reveal that it’s working on a Black Flag Remake, but late last year several reports edged out from inside the firm suggesting that it most certainly is – including our exclusive Insider Gaming report.

Are you excited about the idea of a Black Flag Remake?

  • For the love of all that is good. Please don’t change the original fighting system….or anything at all really. Just update the graphics on unreal 5 and leave the core gameplay alone. I miss the old fighting style of being able to bounce around against enemies. Hopefully they bring back the companion app to control the fleet.

  • Before they make that how about delivering the Splinter Cell remakes, Prince Of Persia remake, and Beyon Good & Evil 2? Remake Beyond Good & Evil 1 also the rest of the Prince’s trilogy.
