Ubisoft Says 34 Million People Played AC IV: Black Flag

In a post celebrating the tenth anniversary of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Ubisoft confirmed that ‘over 34 million players’ have jumped into a pirating adventure over the last decade. For many, Black Flag is the best game in the series, boasting a massive open world, enough side content to keep the average player occupied for hours on end, and an immersive, emotional story that features one of the best protagonists in the series to date.

That’s A Lot of Pirates

Bizarrely, estimations suggest that, as of 2023, around 15 million copies of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag have been sold, so the ’34 million players’ number does seem like a reach. But with that being said, we’re assuming the lower number isn’t counting free downloads (Black Flag has appeared in several promotions in the past) or subscription service-based downloads, such as Ubisoft+.

Typically, Ubisoft plays player numbers close to its chest, particularly where the Assassin’s Creed franchise is concerned. It was recently stated that Assaasin’s Creed Mirage’s first week of play was comparable to that of Origins and Odyssey, but exact figures weren’t disclosed.

Did you ever get a chance to play Black Flag? Where does it fit into your ranking of all the Assassin’s Creed games?
