Baldur’s Gate 3 Could Get More Races Down The Line

Since its August release date, Baldur’s Gate 3 has received countless praise while taking home multiple awards. Now as the game continues to grow, developer Larian Studios says it’s not done updating Baldur’s Gate 3, and that could mean more races for the game.

When the game left early access in August, Larian added dragonborn and half-orc to the game. With 11 races in the game, there’s plenty of variety. But Larian Studios knows there’s a demand from some players for more, it’s just not at the top of the priority list at the moment.

“We don’t have specific plans for new races at the moment, but we’re not saying no,” writing director Adam Smith said during an appearance on the Xbox On Twitch channel.

He said that the team has plenty of future plans for the game, but couldn’t divulge more into what those were.

“All I can tell you is that we do plan to do more updates, we’re not done yet,” he said.

Smith said a reason for various things not making the game at launch or in the first updates was their fit. There were a lot of discussions, he said, about whether a certain feature or element fit within the game’s campaign or story.

“There’s loads of stuff that we intentionally didn’t put in because it didn’t fit,” Smith adds. [T]here’s some stuff where we’re like ‘this would be nice to think about later’ – there’s a lot in Baldur’s Gate 3 already but we didn’t want to leave it be.”
