ARK: Survival Ascended Dragontopia Shadowdrop Revealed in Trio of Updates

Studio Wildcard has unveiled a trio of updates for ARK: Survival Ascended that includes the shadowdrop of Dragontopia, an all-new dragon-themed expansion for the popular, open-world survival title. ARK: Dragontopia starts here, and as the year goes on, it’ll continue to expand.

If you’re enjoying the newest season of HBO’s House of the Dragon, you’ll want to lap up ARK: Dragontopia alongside the other two updates: Tides of Fortune and Genesis Ascended Part 1.

What is ARK: Dragontopia?

ARK: Dragontopia is the all-new expansion shadowdropped today by Studio Wildcard, exclusively for ARK: Survival Ascended. It’s an evolving content drop that introduces a legendary dragon, Eclipsar Umbra, which can be tamed with the mythic Dragon Horn. The team at Studio Wildcard wrote in a press release:

Rain precision plasma from the cover of darkness, or slip through the void itself to ambush unsuspecting prey.

There’s a fresh skill tree to work through that allows players to build a stronger bond with dragons. That’s dragons, plural. Additionally, players can lean on the new Drake Claw Grappler tool to mount dragons in midair, and they can equip the Draconic Armor to fully RP as a dragonrider straight out of the Thrones universe.

Studio Wildcard advised that more dragons will be released in the weeks and months ahead as this expansion builds. In December, a massive new world map will be released, themed entirely around Dragontopia.

Elsewhere, players can take advantage of Genesis Ascended Part 1 for free, exploring a new ocean biome and battling the Palaeoctopus.

In a similar vein, the Tides of Fortune expansion can be dug through, but it has a $19.99 price tag attached to it. This piece of DLC features the acting talents of Karl Urban and Auli’i Cravalho, and it invites players to construct a naval fleet and go to war on the open ocean, participating in ship-to-ship fights, working through a new skill tree, and fighting fresh creatures.

The trio of updates equals an update that’s reaching as large as 42 GB on some platforms, by the way.
