Embark Studios has fully unveiled Frozen Trail, the super-sized update coming to ARC Raiders in just a couple of weeks. In a new video breaking down every inch of the update today, the team revealed new ARC enemies, a massive map, and fresh core mechanics that are sure to change the face of ARC Raiders, for better or worse.
The team also confirmed that a new progression feature is entering the arena in the form of Reward Passes. These have been dubbed an ‘evolution’ over the old Raider Deck mechanic, but to the chagrin of gamers everywhere, it’s just another way of talking about paid battle passes.
Reward Passes Coming to ARC Raiders
Ever since ARC Raiders hit the market, the game has featured a ‘Raider Deck’ mechanic that worked like a season pass feature. Every new ‘season’, you’d get a new Raider Deck, and you could grind through the multiple tiers of this thing for free, unlocking rewards simply for completing in-game tasks and earning digital credits.
However, owing to a reimagining of how monetization works in ARC Raiders, Embark Studios has decided to do away with the Raider Deck and, instead, will resort to implementing a simple Reward Pass feature from October 8, with the launch of Frozen Trail.
The Reward Pass mechanic will be split into two channels: Free Pass and Premium Pass. The former offers plenty of rewards with no price tag, while the latter has even more rewards, exclusive cosmetics, and premium versions of the free rewards, but it comes with a price.
There’s also a Legacy Pass that allows users to keep hitting all the previous unlocks from past Raider Decks, to ensure that nothing escapes them while this evolution lands in-game.
In a blog post, the team wrote:
The Frozen Trail update also launches with a new progression mechanic, the Reward Pass. These passes are an evolution of the Raider Decks, allowing you to try out all of the exciting new items and content from the update
It hasn’t been confirmed how much the ARC Raiders Reward Pass will cost.
