Amazon Says It’s ‘Too Early To Discuss’ Future 007 Titles

Recently, Amazon provided an update regarding the future of James Bond video games, as it was suggested that new titles will be solely published by Amazon, not IO Interactive. This sentiment arrived following the standout success of 007 First Light, with the game selling over 1.5 million copies in just 24 hours; you’d imagine that this is just the beginning for the series.

Well, in the latest statement by Amazon Game Studios, it’s been deemed ‘too early to discuss future projects.’ Instead, IO will have more to share regarding 007 First Light in the near future: any further than that seems to be unknown.

What Does 007’s Future Look Like Under Amazon & MGM?

The new statement from Amazon was received by VGC, and it was in response to the notion that future 007 titles would be ‘done by MGM and, theoretically, by Amazon Game Studios.’

That sentiment created a concern that IO Interactive would lose out on the ability to create future 007 titles, as it seemed like the resounding notion was that Amazon were in control, and IO would instead take the back seat. This hit especially hard after the resounding success and impact First Light has had.

In response to this concern, Amazon responded with this:

Amazon MGM holds the rights to any future James Bond video games but it’s still too early to discuss future projects.

We have a great relationship with IO Interactive and are proud of what we’ve accomplished together on 007 First Light. Our partners at IO will reveal more about 007 First Light in the near future and we’re looking forward to sharing what’s next.

This new statement doesn’t paint much of a clearer picture, but it was made abundantly clear that, whilst it’s too early to discuss future projects in the Bond franchise, Amazon has a ‘great relationship with IO Interactive.’ It doesn’t seem like they’re desperate to cut IO off, and the likelihood is that Amazon will simply take over on the publishing of the game, with IO in charge of development.

Still, as Amazon said itself, it’s too early to paint a specific picture, but with the commercial and critical success of First Light, you’d imagine some important conversations are taking place regarding Bond’s future—after all, a sequel was supposedly dependent on public reception to First Light, and could that be any better amid GOTY shouts?

What do you hope to see for Bond’s future? Should Amazon just let IO get on with it themselves? Share your thoughts in the official Insider Gaming Discord Server.
