Bethesda wastes no time in getting players up to speed in DOOM: The Dark Ages. Chapter 1’s Village of Khalim may serve as an introductory level, but it features a plethora of secrets, hidden treasures, and battles galore.
Like any DOOM game, The Dark Ages slowly ramps up the gears and goodies as you progress. You start with basic weapons, before becoming a super-powerful soldier like Doomguy deserves to be. Chapter 1’s Village of Khalim is the perfect entry point for a game that will take you a while to beat.
Whether you’re struggling to find one collectible or all of them, this guide should have something for everyone.
All DOOM: The Dark Ages Chapter 1 Collectibles in Village of Khalim
I’ve split this up into mini-sections covering each secret, where to find it, and what it is. This is the order I found them in; it isn’t necessarily the ideal route, but it’ll get you there one way or another.
Hopefully, you can get through Chapter 1 quickly and painlessly and score some secrets along the way in DOOM: The Dark Ages.
Village of Khalim Chapter 1 Secret Location One—Life Sigil
After you pick up the Power Gauntlet, move forward, kill the enemies, and instead of climbing up the wall to your objective, take a quick left and use your Shield to smash through the wall with the blue circles. Through here is the first secret area, and a Life Sigil awaits.
Village of Khalim Chapter 1 Secret Location Two—Imp Toy
You’ll reach a section of the level where you learn how to Projectile Parry. Destroy the wall, advance, climb up the wall, and head into the mini-boss fight where you’re taught how to do Glory Strikes. Defeat it, and claim the Blue Key. Head back to the main square, and before you “Open The Gate,” go and open the sealed blue door nearby to find an Imp Toy.
Village of Khalim Chapter 1 Secret Location Three—Soldier Toy
Pick up your new Shredder weapon after closing another Portal, and directly behind it is a section of missing fence. Drop down off the ledge and follow the path into the cave. You’ll find lots of supplies and the Soldier Toy.
Village of Khalim Chapter 1 Secret Location Four—Life Sigil
Go back to the Shredder container, face it, and turn left about 135 degrees. Go to the doorway with the torn red flag, go through it, keep going, and on your right is a Life Sigil hidden away in a crevice.
Village of Khalim Chapter 1 Secret Location Five—Weapon Skin
For location five, go back to the weapon cache and face it directly again. Do a 180, head forward (toward the crate hanging overhead), and head to the end of the tracks going toward the cliff side. Look over the cliff, look down below to your right, and you’ll see a hidden cave entrance below. Clear out the enemies to lower the shield and claim the Weapon Skin.
Village of Khalim Chapter 1 Secret Location Six—Life Sigil
To reach the “Defend The Beach objective, you’ve got several portals to close. Along the way is a Secret Key, which opens a door containing the Life Sigil. To make things easy, you can see the location of the key in the first screenshot and the door in the second picture.
Village of Khalim Chapter 1 Secret Location Seven—Codex (Doom Slayer)
Directly behind Location Three’s cave is a path that takes you around a path, up two separate climbable surfaces, and you can find the Doom Slayer Codex at the top, overlooking a lot of the map.
Village of Khalim Chapter 1 Secret Location Eight—Codex (Village of Khalim)
Before you jump down into the final part of the level, there’s a hidden path. Instead of going past the flaming wreckage and heading toward the giant dragon and monster fight in the distance, turn around, ascend the climbable wall, and you should find a Codex hidden around the corner.

How Many Secrets Are There in Village of Khalim?
There are six Secret areas to find in DOOM: The Dark Ages’ Village of Khalim Chapter 1 mission—but eight items to find in total.
Hidden Toys, skins, and much-needed Life Sigils are dotted around the map. Even if it’s just for the Life Sigils, these secrets are worth tracking down. Plus, if you want to get every trophy and achievement, you definitely need to know where everything is!
