If there’s one thing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) cemented in the COD franchise, it’s absolutely the popularization and spread of quickscoping. Not to throw any shade on Counter Strike (credit where credit is due). Still, a lot of fond memories come flooding back of MW2 sniping montages on YouTube. In this list, we’re looking at all sniper rifles from Modern Warfare 2 (2009).
1. BARRETT .50CAL
The Barrett .50CAL is a solid choice of weapon and one that doesn’t get enough credit for its use in Modern Warfare 2. It tends to be overshadowed by its counterpart, the Intervention. However, the Barrett .50CAL isn’t a bad pick due to its manageable idle sway when aimed down sight, larger magazine size, and general good handling and ADS time. It all comes down to the player’s preference. Perhaps the Barrett .50CAL is glazed over due to its high recoil for being a non bolt action sniper rifle. In any case, nothing’s quite as sweet sounding as the Barrett .50CAL firing a round and finding its target.

2. INTERVENTION
There’s absolutely no denying that the Intervention is the best sniper rifle from Modern Warfare 2 (2009). Arguably, the Intervention’s greatest drawback is its small magazine size. Nonetheless, its recoil is not as unruly as the Barrett .50CAL before it, making it the near universal preferred choice for quickscoping in MW2. That’s essentially what it comes down to between the sniper rifles. Their stats are practically on par with one another but its recoil that settles the score. The Intervention remains a fan favorite and a common sight in multiplayer matches to this day.
3. M21 EBR
Before Battle Rifles became a class of their own in the Call of Duty series, there’s the M21 EBR from Modern Warfare 2 (2009). This sniper rifle felt like it was in a league of its own. Certainly not as popular a choice as the Barrett .50 CAL or Intervention, the M21 EBR can be used similarly to the FAL assault rifle by attaching an ACOG scope. In retrospect, this sniper rifle doesn’t seem too shabby for any prospective snipers to get a feel for the class. With the ACOG scope, it’s practically a solid semi-automatic rifle. With its default scope, inexperienced players can get a hang of acquiring targets by hardscoping and picking them off one-by-one. Equipping a silencer, Ninja, Cold Blooded, and Scavenger is a pretty good loadout.

4. WA2000
It’s safe to assume the WA2000 is the least of all sniper rifles from Modern Warfare 2 (2009). Alright, well, if you’re only beginning your foray into the wide world of Call of Duty sniping, then the WA2000 can help you get your bearings. To its benefit, the WA2000 has so little recoil compared alongside the Intervention and Barrett .50CAL. Ironically, if players have no interest in quickscoping, this sniper rifle can be used the way the class is intended to be used. In that sense, the WA2000 can practically guarantee one shot kills when taking your time and picking your shots without the use of Stopping Power.
